The FA are almost definately introducing the 5 + 6 rule into English football withinn the next 2 years. The rule states that no club in all tiers of English football is allowed more than 5 foreign players on the pitch at any one time and no more than 6 additional players registered to the club. The rule was first proposed after Englands failure to qualify for Euro 2008 and the rule is supposed to help young English talent to progess. Is this the real reason why the England National team has lost track with the rest of the world or is it that English youngsters are simply not good enough to make it into or clubs today?

I hate all this crap about there are too many foreighners in the game. If the english kids are good enough, then they would get into the squad, simple enough.

fair point but surely the big names would be in the ones that the club are allowed to keep.

Their trying to handicap teams like United and Chelsea. Arsenal will suffer big time if this rule is implemented. It quite frankly is rediculous, and it'll never happen, trust me. Whats next, only English managers?

no chelsea and united will be fine it's liverpool and arensal, the likes of lampard, a.cole, j.cole, terry and they can still keep the big names like cech, ballack and drogba on the pitch, it's players like kalou who won't be playing regularly. United have rooney, neville, ferdinand, heargreaves, giggs (i think cos he's british), carrick, foster, ect. All that will happen is that the big clubs will use their money to buy the best enlgish players instead of the best european ones.

Again, that brings me to my original point. Why does FIFA have to implement a rule to force clubs to buy English players? If they were good enough in the first place, they would have been bought and have a place in the squad. IT WON"T HAPPEN!

I think this rule would be good. I have never liked the amount of foreign players, the fact that we have an italian coach is embarresing enough. Then again the last one was crap. Still it would definately mess arsenal up all en all a good idea

Lol, yeah arsenal would be completely screwed, they only got wallcott and hoyet. I see your point matt but part of the reason their not good enough is because they are not getting the chance.

i'd actually love to see this rule put into place but i don't think they (the powers that be) would risk the damage to bigger teams chelc n utd would just be ok but arsenal may as well say gdbye to ANY titles and liverpool would become a spurs then agen there a lot of lower teeams who would be affected... off the top of my hed how many english players do watford have? estonian goalkeeper.....american players....chris do tell
